SU-GBD (cn 194) Our destination can just be made out off the left wing… Abu Simbel in the south of Egypt. Unknown to us at the time was the fact that in 1998 this aircraft was involved in a crash with a 767 in which the tail of this A320 was sheered off! Glad they got it fixed!! |

G-ADUY (cn S.816) G-ADUY "Capella" an Empire C Class flying boat seen in front of The Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor, Egypt. Capella was built in 1935 and served as a passenger and mail plane. Four years later, on March 12th, 1939, she crashed into an uncharted obstacle, in the harbour of Tandjong Priok, Batavia, (Netherlands East Indies)(Jakarta, Indonesia), under the command of Captain Hussey. Imperial Airways had her dismantled and shipped to England, but water damage precluded repair and she was written off. (Goldberg Collection) |
