N9997P (cn 407400003) The PA-40 was designed as an upgrade to the PA-39 Twin Comanche and first flew in 1974. Piper elected not to produce the aircraft due to financial difficulties and only made three examples. The first prototype crashed and the second was scrapped. Thus this is the only example of a PA-40 in the world. It belongs to Purdue University and is kept at their Aviation Technology hangar in Lafayette. |
