162589 (cn 511) F-14A AD-161 from VF-101 "The Grim Reapers" taxis to its spot on the demo ramp. This aircraft performed all 3 days of the CLE Air Show. Ironically, while the ground display featured the Upgraded F-14B and top of the line F-14D, it was left to this old tired F-14A to perform the flying demo. Because of the lower rated thrust engines, the F-14A demonstration was different from that flown by F-14B or F-14D aircraft. VF-101 was the training squadron for all F-14 pilots, and flew all 3 versions of the Tomcat to train pilots for their specific aircraft assignments. |
