G-ARUL / 5 (cn PFA/1511) I snapped this shot at the Duxford Imperial War Museum Autumn Air Show on 14 Oct 2012 but had no idea of the Levier Cosmic Wind Mk II’s history. Much to my surprise, it dates all the way back to the 1949 National Air Races in Cleveland, OH. “Ballerina” was the third of the original three Cosmic Wind built by Lockheed engineers in 1947, and was originally registered as N22C, c/n 103. It was one of only six of its’ type. It was involved in a crash in the UK during a race in 1966 but was rebuilt and was re-registered with the new c/n of PFA/1511. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch any shots in the sky.

XZ722 / 645 (cn 177) Although totally unplanned, my son and I were able to make the Duxford 2012 Autumn Airshow on Sunday October 14th, which was the final air show in England for the year. The Royal Navy’s “Black Cats” Helicopter Display Team (based at the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset) was the highlight of the show. The team flies the Lynx Maritime Attack helicopter. This was their last performance using the Lynx. They will transition into the new Agusta/Westland “Wildcat” helicopter. This was the best helicopter demonstration I have ever seen. Here, the Lynx 645 is about to lift off for the final “Black Cat” performance.
