RA-86570 (cn 1356344) IL-62M of the Russian Ministry for Civil Aid and Protection, in Cleveland in support of the Azerbaijan Government who's ailing leader, President Geidar Aliev was undergoing emergency surgery for congestive heart failure and kidney problems at the Cleveland Clinic (where he had bypass surgery in 1999.) He passed away in Cleveland shortly thereafter. ( This is the only IL-62 I've seen in Cleveland in my 45 years.) August 7, 2003

N925AX (cn 45728) Airborne Express used to operate their YS-11's here at Hopkins until they were retired and replaced with DC-9's. Here we see N925AX parked on the cargo ramp in the spot they still use to this day. This particular aircraft can still be found on the civil register, but was last reported stored/WFU. Built in 1965, this was the 14th member of the DC-9 family off the production line, and was nearing its fortieth birthday when this photo was taken on August 7, 2003.

RA-86570 (cn 1356344) The four engined IL-62 was the principal long-range airliner of the former Soviet Union for many years before being replaced with more efficient equipment. This example is used as a VIP transport, and is still active today as a governmental support aircraft. The only IL-62 I've ever seen at Cleveland, this Russian beauty is pictured as it sits on the Air Services ramp on August 7, 2003 during an official visit. August 7, 2003

VP-BBS (cn 30834) This aircraft brought ailing Azerbaijani President Geidar Aliev to Cleveland to undergo treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. The leader later passed away and was flown home for a State funeral. As I was looking at this photo closely for the first time in years, I realized that N75FC, the small Citation visible behind the 757 was parked on the ramp. This aircraft is still a very frequent sight here. August 7, 2003
