None (cn None) An overview of Cleveland Hopkins Airport from the south looking north in 1963. Of special interest is the view down runway 36L. Based on the amount of tire rubber, runway 36L was used quite frequently at the time. 36R is the smaller runway to the east, that can be tracked by the dashed centerline. 36L became 36 when the ramp took over runway 36R. Now there is no runway 36 at CLE. It is amazing what a hodgepodge of taxiways, runways and ramp space there is in this view especially around the terminal area. Aircraft took off from many places on the field, including the sod area on the left portion of the field. Controllers had to juggle private aviation as well as the newest jetliners of the day in the early 60s. This picture is from my photo collection and is not my shot.

AWESOME!!! Oh, do I miss the "idea" of Runway 36 (never having seen it in use in real life)... And I've seen older charts of the airport showing a small sod field where NASA is now, with a few 1000' x 50' runways marked. I also notice that the taxiways were not developed like now, and it looks like Concourse C either wasn't built yet or the banjo head is missing. Thanks for uploading this!
