Outside there is an F-105, very complete F-101B from the Texas ANG, C-47, F-11F-1. Inside restoration is being done on the F-100 and the F-86D and T-37. They also have a MIg-17, F-4S Phantom, and F-14 Tomcat on display. I have been helping them locate a F-16 from Davis Monthan, and the museum reserved a F-16 that served at WPAFB (see my post on that units aircraft) I will post my shots of the Voodoo there soon. Also, wait till spring to go down there- they don't take people outside much in the winter. |

What a neat story! The F-105 was one of my favorite planes as a kid...I'll have to make a trip down to see this. |

I have an interesting story on this one- I was part of the crew putting the wings back on this F-105. The airplane was sitting in a cradle, and one of the side support wires was removed inadvertently. When we went to push the wing in place, we knocked the F-105 fuselage right out of the cradle. The airplane was nicknamed "The Thud", and thats exactly the sound it made when the fuselage fell 5 feet to the ground! Republic made it strong, and there was little damage. This plane was a battle damage repair aircraft, and has hundreds of patches riveted on. It needs a whole lot of TLC before its museum ready. |

Forgot to mention this was next to the parking lot and entrance to the MAPS Museum. Thanks Chuck! Longtime lurker and fan here. And as a matter of fact, I have heard of him! I'm the proud Dad. I guess it's his turn to teach me now. |
