Braniff actually started service at CLE and 15 other cities in 1978 when the govt deregulated the industry. They flew into CLE until their demise in 1982, although at some point before then, they stopped the Kansas City service and flew only to ORD from here.

Amazing- all the times I was out to the Airport during that time (I only worked a mile away) I never recall seeing Braniff. How long did their service out of CLE last?

When Braniff started service here they flew nonstop, 2 flights a day to both O'Hare and Kansas City.

Thanks for the picture and a memory of this service. I took Braniff from CLE to ORD, changed planes, another Braniff to SAT to start my Air Force commitment in August of 1973 at the mature age of 18.

Nice! I loved the Flying Colors scheme- did Braniff operate regular air service out of CLE back then or was this a charter?
