Runway length at Burke is the issue- The Air Force requires minimum 7,000 ft runway length for their fighter aircraft, but with a waiver from the Air Force, they can operate out of Burke. A shame, because the F-15 or F-16 clean can break ground in 1,500-2,000 feet in full burner. Not sure why some years waivers are granted and some years they are denied. Frustrating! Also, the stipulation on the waiver is the runway must be dry. I say fly 'em in, if its wet, land at Hopkins, then bring the plane over when conditions are better. Guess with the price tag of $25-$30 million per copy, the AF does not want to take chances. It still seems funny to see a C-5 operate with room to spare, but a fughter aircraft is not allowed on the same runway!
