I am headed back to england in january, thinking of a couple of ideas.

number 1 i could take continental, with a stop in newark (wish we still had the direct flight...)

choices there include a 757 for the long flight or i could hold out for a 777...any preferences?  how does the single isle plane do for the long haul?  does it feel comfy or clausterphobic?

and choice number 2, is using miles to get to EWR and then taking virgin atlantic for the long flight, i have heard great things about their service...in fact i am close to being able to get a straight up rewards flight that uses VA, but i am 3000 miles short.

so what say you opshots?  anyone done a long flight on a 757?  how was it?  i have still yet to fly continental's international product...it has to be better than US Airways, right?

Choice number 3 is taking the Jazz to YYZ and going air canada, foreign carriers often do it up right...

these options are all within about $100 of each other, so i'm open to suggestions.

Would love the 777! Try and get that one!

I would choose the Triple Seven. Unless VA is using a 747.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

I've "crossed the pond" on both, and prefer the 777, although to be honest, I've never flown in the back.  Are you planning on Business First?

yeah, i am sitting in the back, it's tough being a newlywed who has to pay full price (although i found out my siblings, all with kids call us DINKs (Dual Income No Kids)

virgin does use a 747 out of newark...i can't seem to get the return flight to cleveland with enought time in EWR...

using rewards miles i can go thru newark going out on a 737 to EWR and 747 to LHR and then back on an A340 to IAD, and then a RJ back to CLE...not too bad...

My siblings are the same way. Some people just don't get it.  "Dual Income No Kids" does not translate to "Money coming out of my ears" (despite what they believe).

ERJ or CRJ?  For us big guys, there's a difference!  At 6'5" I much prefer the single seat on the ERJ than pretty much anything on a CRJ.  Once on a South African A343 JFK-JNB (and the return as well), by the time we arrived at the destination, my knees were horribly bruised from pressing so hard against the seat in front of me.  There's only so much walking around that can be done inside an airplane for 18 hours!  If only I could afford to sit in the FRONT of the plane!

Both, Continental 757 and 777 have the new entertainment system in the back.  A lot better than the 762 and 764.  You can pick between a ton of movies and play games and what not.  Sure, the 777 feels roomier, but to be honest, I think the 757 has the same seat pitch so physically it's just as comfortable, maybe a little louder.  I'm sure the Virgin 747 is pretty nice in the back, I'd pick that over CO.  Not sure about the other options you mentioned.

I took a Virgin 747 Y class IAD-LHR as a CO codeshare a few years ago and it had really great seats - none of those "slim line" butt busters that CO is so fond of. This 747 had the old style, overstuffed chairs that were actually comfortable even in economy class.

I believe it was  a 747-200, so that particular plane is probably beer cans by now.
