Kucinich Announces a New Department of Transportation Grant for Cleveland-Hopkins
$4 Million to Address Noise Mitigation
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today announced $4.1 million in new federal funding from the Department of Transportation to provide noise mitigation efforts for nearby residents of Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport.
Oh for crying out loud. Planes are getting quieter and quieter and there's hardly any houses anywhere...and the ones that are nearby have already been fitted with noise reducing windows, doors, and new furnaces courtesy of the noise abatement programs.
Who was first anyway? The homeowners or the airport? It's like moving next to the railroad tracks and complaining about the trains.
i would proudly live near the end of a runway without any of that fancy noise reducing stuff on my house
its the new homeowners fault for moving next door to an airport, the homeowners should be responsible for updating their homes, what did they think was gonna happen when they moved close to an airport?
now i do think that if a family has owned a house near there since before the airport was built, then that should be the airports responsibility.
I think some of my neighbors in Berea may need some noise abatement, from my loud mouth beagle. Mark, after the citizens of Garfield Hts voted out the traffic speed cameras, someone decided to let the streets go to s**t to slow everyone down. Like a lot of Federal money, this 4 mil may only be available if used for certain projects.
The Tremont neighborhood is like a battle zone. Everyone is swerving back and forth to avoid the worst of them, but you just can't avoid them all. Honestly, this is the worst I've seen it. I now have a new hole in front of my driveway that's at least three feet long and a foot and a half wide, luckily, it's only the asphalt covering the old brick that has come up so it's not too deep. The one three houses down however, will throw you for a loop!
Be careful swerving around potholes...they can and WILL give you a ticket for reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Granted, you can fight it and win in court (avoiding a hazardous obstacle) with a few enlarged pictures for evidence, but that's expensive. And keep in mind, insurance companies rate reckless-op as comparable to a low-grade DUI (haven't figured that one out yet!), so court is likely the best option. They'll get money one way or another--cameras, tickets, court...
I say use the $4 million to convert the old Zin into a spotters paradise for CLE.
