Talk about an unrestricted climb!  I see he leveled off in a not-so-abrupt fashion.  I would venture that once the a/c was vertical that there wasn't sufficient airspeed to actually fly and the pilot had to regain said speed before leveling off to avoid stalling the wings.  Does the KC-10 have enough power for a full vertical, rocket-style climb?  I know that wasn't completely "vertical" but with a plane that size, one must consider "close enough!"
