Thanks for the welcomes, and for the videos! Today was pretty cool...we got to climb in and around a 757, we uploaded a 737-800, and downloaded an A320. We also practiced marshalling, driving tugs, pushbacks and belt loaders. We did a little wing-walking on live flights and tomorrow, we are going to be working flights all day. I bet I'll be sore tomorrow night, as I think we will be working more flights than an ordinary ramp crew would on a given day, but it feels good to do it! We'll see how excited I am tomorrow night after working in the rain all day!
Good luck Chuck I guess that none of the airlines operators are taking on fresh staff I am looking for a new job but never worked in the airline industry, I have been so busy with my present job I have had no time to get out and about but my best friend arrives today from England and I have taken a few days off to spend some time with him so we will be dotting about a few airfields over this weekend.

Yeah the weather has to be the worst part of this job - if it's nasty out. When it's nice though it has to be one of the best jobs in the world! Find some good raingear - that stuff is priceless!
Thanks Harry! And we got lucky on Thursday...the rains held off throughout our day. We worked our first flight "solo" with just our instructor and the lead agent on hand to help us out. That was on a 737-700, but earlier in the day I got to marshal in a 757...that was way cool! Yesterday we took our final exam for mainline aircraft and I passed with 93%...so that's good. I still think that one of the questions was poorly worded! The other mistakes were just duh's...I should have know the answers. But we all passed! Next week, we start training on all the myriad Express types.
As for rain gear, I know...everyone is telling us if we buy our own it will last much longer than the company supplied stuff, so I gotta get shopping!
During our training we weren't taught anything about any widebodies, unfortunately. There are those on the ramp who are qualified, but I guess they feel it isn't worthy for initial training.
In other news, our training is over and I begin full time this Thursday after a five day mini-vacation. I'll be working 1:30-10:00 (1330-2200) for the month of May, and we will bid along with the rest of the ramp for the summer bid period.
I can't tell you how nice it has been to be back on the ramp...I didn't even mind working in the rain the other day! I know there will be challenging days, but I'm thinking of it this way...a bad day on the ramp is a horrible day in operations! Yeah, I'm happy!
