July 31, 2001 was the last day for Delta Air Lines L-1011 scheduled service.  DAL1949, operated by N728DA, flew from Orlando to Atlanta.  I remember that event as if it happened last week!  I was seated in the back row in a window seat...45A.

Now, the next day, August 1, ship 728 departed ATL on its retirement flight bound for VCV.   Onboard were Delta Air Lines employees and invited guests.  It was a party flight!  I was supposed to be onboard but opted to not go. That is the biggest regret of my life.  ALAS!

Anyhoo, to honor my fondness for this airplane my license plate is N728DA.
