Found this on the Telegraph site.

 They are making much of the planes age - 31 years.

Obviously maintenance standards and quality of infrastructure are likely to be significant, especially in the former USSR.

How long a plane can fly is determined by many factors and there are certainly older planes still flying scheduled services in the US.  Which would be the oldest? I wonder?

This crash is already mentioned on Wikipedia's Tu134 page - that was fast!

How about Delta's DC9-51 c/n 47652 N676MC as oldest operational airliner (Built 1975) 36 years old!
