Hi gang. The wife and I are finally getting another vacation in September. We are going to go RUH-MUC-EWR-CLE (Luft/UA), then we are returning CLE-IAD-FRA-RUH (Republic/UA/Luft).
I need some info for maneuvering around MUC and FRA efficiently, and the maps aren't really helping me too much. Does anyone have any info, or alternative links to a good map for getting around to the right gates quickly?
Thanks.
Doug
Out of the sandbox, finally!
I've flown in/out of Munich a couple of times. It's smaller than FRA and not so hectic; plus (in my opinion) Munich is a much nicer place to be stuck if anything goes wrong with your connection.
Both airports are efficient and easy to figure out. There is a 99% chance that you can WALK wherever you need to go at both airports. If you know a little German, I've found the police are much better at answering questions than the airport employees.
Good to hear. I made sure that we had four hour layovers at both places.I had coworkers tell me that FRA is a huge madhouse, and that they didn't like it. I still have a bit of Deutch from growing up, so I think we'll be okay.
After the OJ Run that we had to do at Heathrow last year because our flight from ORD was late, I figured discretion is the better part of valor. That, and I want to relax and taste my German beer, not guzzle it. When we came back last year, the layover at CDG turned out to be just what we needed. Early morning, take a breath, grab a real croissant with coffee, hit duty-free, then do Beer For Breakfast, the new tradition.

As mentioned above, MUC is smaller (and more modern) than FRA. Both are relatively easy to navigate and are very efficient in a Germanic sort of way. Just follow the plentiful signs and ask helpful, English-speaking staff, if you have questions. You should have no problems with connections at either airport. One odd thing I've noticed when boarding at FRA the last two trips (once on AC and once on TG), there was a mad dash to the gate once boarding began--very un-orderly and un-German. There was virtually no recognition of status per standard Star Alliance policy, just every person for themselves.
Make sure you stop at one of the several bakeries for some excellent German pretzels/bread/sandwiches, along with your beer (and delicious pastries for dessert).
