I was up at the bomb group yesterday afternoon for awhile, and a bunch of firetrucks turned their lights on waiting for a plane to land.  arrivals had been on 24R but they brought in an express jet RJ on 24L and then the firetrucks raced out to it and it sat on the runway for awhile.  not sure what was going on.

Well...I wasn't there yesterday so I couldn't say.  Sounds like it could have been any number of precautionary type landings.

I'm finding out that this happens more than we know. Both times I was on a tour of the airport there was an emergency and we had to be escorted out. The first time we were in the ARFF (Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting) building when it happened!!! That was with Cub Scouts and you should've seen the size of their eyes!

Well...truthfully, it IS kinda routine!  99% of the time it is done out of an abundance of caution...better safe than sorry!  I'll bet those guys eyes opened wide!

the biggest thing to me is that they closed 24L and were arriving and departing on 24R.  according to my radio it was making the controllers job a lot harder.

The ARFF guys do a lot more than it seems.  Usually see them out there a few times a month.  Mostly precautionary - thankfully nothing big and I hope there never is!
