You need to be a member to view our links.

I can see the advantage from a business perspective, but if one tiny thing happens, they'll have to divert!  Apparently, this distance is within the 747's range, but by how much?  Is there any wiggle-room at all in the event of weather, head wind, etc?

Apparently not too much wiggle room, but it can be done!  Thanks for the link to the story...it's on the front page now!

Pretty cool.  I had heard they were going to start DFW (at the expense of SFO mind you), but I didn't know it was going to be non-stop.

Cartman - my mother is seriously afraid of flying, yet she made it through the 18 hour HKG-EWR flight on a 777. She said since it was a larger plane with better leg room and places to stand, it was easier for her.

I beg to differ there.  I'm 6'5" and actually prefer the ERJ than the larger planes.  I have much more legroom in the ERJ than in bigger planes.  My experience with overseas flights are bruised knees upon arrival from pressing against the seat in front of me.  I do like having more room to stand on the larger planes.  I can't stand upright on the ERJ and can barely do so on the 737 or 757.  The 767 is fine for head room; I've never been on a 747 or a 777 (tragic, I know).  The only Airbuses I've been on were the A319 and the A340.  The A319 was a long time ago and I don't really remember; the A340 was fine for head room but lousy for legroom!

I should have specified that she was in business class with my father.  Both of those factors lend comfort.

Are they planning on a 747-800 pax version?  I thought it was only going to be a cargo plane?

Aahh, yes, no argument there!  I once got bumped to business class on a short flight CMH-ORD.  It was nice while it lasted!
