So on this snowy wednesday, my wife is supposed to be heading to EWR for her flight to LHR later tonight...any chance of a cancellation to brighten our day? (if she gets delayed today she gets to stay home longer!)

hows things up at the airport?

Not at the airport, but to me things don't look that bad today.  I would say she will be fine heading to EWR.  Hopefully her connection isn't too tight.  I see a lot of people booking themselves on CLE-EWR-International flights with less than an hour connect time, which never works out unless it's blue skies in both CLE and EWR.

CLE is mostly blowing snow with occassional limited visibility but the planes are arriving and departing.  I had an inbound plane from EWR this morning that was about 3 hours late due to EWR weather.

things are TERRIBLE down here in summit county, zero visibility almost...might need extra time to get to the airport...i dont want her to get stuck in newark tho...although her brother and sister in law are 25 minutes from EWR and could put her up

This is one qualm I have with Continental--either you have a layover of less than an hour or you have to stay the night.  All the flights I look at seem to have an early morning departure from one of the major hubs (EWR or IAH) with a slim-to-none chance of making it there that morning from here.  Returning is the same way--I can rarely find anything with an adequate layover to clear customs without having to stay overnight!  What's wrong with an afternoon or evening departure so folks can get to the major hub from their local airport?

I don't understand what you are asking.  There are lot's of perfect travel options available.  Leave CLE around noon for your international flight, you may have to wait for four hours, but you don't have to stress about delays or finding gates.  Coming home from EWR has plenty of options to get to CLE.

It's just that a lot of people book themselves on the last possible flight, like the 2:55pm CLE for a international 5:00pm EWR departure, and that is just cutting it way too close.

It's mostly when we travel to Central America via IAH.  The flights for our destination (SAP or TEG--whichever's cheaper) leave IAH sometime in the 9:00 AM hour and it's tough to get a flight CLE to IAH early enough to catch that flight, so we're often left with catching an evening flight the day before and staying overnight in Houston.

I wish I had been able to go to the 100BG for some RWY 28 spotting... but Wednesday is my class day...  I did watch them coming in over Parma from a window booth at IHOP, but sorely missed the awe of watching them land on the crosswind.

Yeah, I guess a one hour connection is tight, although that early in the morning shouldn't have too many problems making it.  I suppose not every connection is possible to make everyone happy.
