I'm getting to like the new AA livery as shown in E. Jones's recent shots.

Admittedly it looks better on their longer aircraft (the A319's are stubby looking), but it's distinctive and arguably better than what it's replacing. Why, though, does bankruptcy seem to benefit the paint companies every time?

Always wondered that myself - how do you have the money to repaint an entire fleet.

Theoretically, they do it on the regular D check cycle - when they have to repaint the plane anyway. Painting it in one livery or another costs about the same.  But then the new CEO decides it's taking forever and hurries the process up ... $$$

Saw them in Paris and JFK on my trip home in September.

Reminds me of the pre-WWII scheme on US aircraft with the striped tail.

Out of the sandbox, finally!

I must say, the new colors have grown on me, but nothing will be the same as the shiny polished birds of the past!

The Boeing 307 in Pan Am colors at the Udvar-Hazy museum is truly awesome. Too bad CFRP won't take a shine.
