The FBI is looking into three incidents of lasers being pointed at aircraft that happened Wednesday and Thursday on Cleveland's West Side. Investigators say the origin of the laser beams are likely from the areas of Lorain Avenue and West 105th Street.
Twenty-five other incidents happened Dec. 16 and are believed to have come from West 117th Street and Clifton Avenue on the Cleveland-Lakewood border, the FBI said.
Pilots complained about having difficulty concentrating and were briefly disoriented while trying to land at the Airport, the FBI said. A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said in an email Friday that a pilot landing on Wednesday reported seeing a green laser coming from about eight miles away from the airport.
FBI spokeswoman Vicki Anderson said agents did not know what type of lasers were used, but pilots said the lights were very bright.
Aiming a laser at an aircraft is a federal crime. Even small lasers can spread and become large beams of light that can block a pilot's vision, the FBI's release states.
