I was outside 30 mins ago sitting with some friends taking in some late day coolness when I saw a short contrail heading towards Akron, To me, it had a 'wider than I am used to' contrail so hope was filling up inside me hoping that it had 4 engines, something I have never seen at altitude, I quickly deduced that it was coming from Houston, but still did not know where it was heading, but obviously overseas.

Once it had disappeared from my sight behind some of Akron's larger buildings, I quickly ran up to my apartment and logged onto flightaware.

It was Lufthansa DLH448 out of Houston heading to Frankfurt at FL390.

This is my first time ever seeing an A380 and spotting a very large aircraft over Akron(for all the excitement that was in me, I still would have been happy even if it was a 747.

I have aways thought that in order to see an A380, I would have to visit NYC or LAX or Houston, Now I do not need to worry about it so much, but still would like to see one up close.

Congratulations!  It's always cool to see a heavy overhead, especially when it's one that won't even touch earth in North America!  Although this one does, I have yet to see Lufthansa's new A380 flight, but it's only a matter of time until I do, and then I'll share the excitement you felt today!

DLH440, the Houston-bound flight, came directly over CLE yesterday (Monday) at approx. 1230.   I saw it coming on radar and was able to watch it seemingly glide directly over work.    Nice short, fat contrail.

Even though I've seen the A380 in person at LAX, it was a treat seeing it overhead my hometown.
