I almost couldn't believe this when I saw it! Apparently, this plane had been in storage for 10 years and was being brought back into service and took off on a test flight yesterday (4/30/11), and immediately encountered control problems. It only got worse as the flight went on.

I can't for the life of me figure out how those pilots got this thing down in one piece, let alone on the runway...amazing airmanship on their part!

Some would knock the TU-154 as a cut-rate 727, but I think it's an amazing plane that was, and is, a worthy contemporary of the 727, and has performed well for many years. The fact that it didn't break up during this flight attests to the fact that these birds are built to take punishment, and boy, was this one punished!!

Amazing three-part video follows that might take your pucker factor up a notch!

Part 1 - takeoff

Part 2 - flyby

t=0m40s

Part 3 - an improbable landing!

From what I understand, the motion you see in the landing video is called "phugoid oscillation" and was previously represented by (but not videotaped) JAL 123 which lost its vertical stabilizer and tail fin.

Yes, it is pretty amazing that they managed to land that aircraft!

Yikes! I like the comment and agree with the comment, " In Russia, plane flies you."

Someone DID get photos of the landing, (sorry...it's in Russian, and while I can read cyrillic, that doesn't mean I know what it means!):

Some amazing photos nonetheless, and it should put to rest those naysayers who are saying it's an elaborate hoax!

Amazing stuff! Beats any fairground ride!

Wouldn;t say no to a couple of hours wandering round the ramp at that airport with my camera!
