While this seems cool, and it appears to cut down on some of the harassment, it also takes away at a freedom we already have.
Where now I could pay to park in the garage, or have lunch at a Brookpark Rd restaurant, now I'd be expected to wear a uniform and an ID for something that should be open in the first place.
A definite trade off, and almost a give-in to the DHS folks that would have us paranoid that everyone with a minor interest in aviation is a suspected threat? So I submit bkgd info, I wear my vest, but now the guy in the work van on his lunch break pulls next to me...he has no less right than I do. I dunno, guess it's the game the ORD guys have to play to get some over zealous airport cops off their back.
Perhaps more attention by CPD should be spent on the various employee lots and in the terminal lobby, both places where random and odd gun violence took place, not the spotters locations.
