Well ladies and gentlemen, tonight is the last night for Continental...the certificates will be merged this evening, and the Continental callsign will be gone from our skies forever.  As of tomorrow, we will be United.  Such a hard thing to comprehend and a bitter pill to swallow.  I hope this endeavor works out to the benefit of all, and not just to the few at the top.  I'm surprisingly emotional today, especially since we knew this was coming...it's just not the same anymore.Cry

Do you want me to make you a sign to hang from your monitor to remind you of the new callsign Wink

If a flight leaves before midnight and lands after midnight what callsign does it fly under.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Yeah it's hard to believe this day has actually come....the end of another great piece of aviation history...Never in my craziest thoughts growing up watching planes did I think Eastern,TWA, Pan Am, Northwest, and now Continental would be gone so soon...just goes to show nothing is set in stone...I just wonder who's next?

Well, I jumped the gun a little bit I guess, but not by much.  It takes effect at 1200z tomorrow, making it 0700 here, but there will be flights in the air during the change.  Good question, and I have no answer for ya at this time!  I do know some pilots and flight attendants who are working CO tonight, but UA tomorrow, but I guess that applies to all.

And yeah...I think I will need a sign!

Its surreal.   I'm with Rich, its just crazy that some incredible aviation history can just cease to exist like this.   I remember the last night of "TWA", I actually listened in on my scanner as the last TWA flight of the night came into CLE from STL.  It was pretty uneventful, but to me it is something I'll never forget...

"Cleveland tower, TWA 54 for runway 5R"......and that was all she wrote....

kinda sucks, ya know?

I'm going to tune into LiveATC right now to listen for a bit.....

Flightaware shows UAL flights for tomorrow already.

I'm starting to think, forget history and roots.. we are heading for the Super Mega of All Time US airline mergers… American+Delta+United = Walmart Airlines with Giant Eagle Express..Complete with fuel perks when you fly…I think that's enough said

So sad!  I remember my first flight on Continental as if it was yesterday.  I know, I'm quite a bit younger than a lot of you and that first CO flight was only 8 years ago, but I was impressed nonetheless.  I had minimal flight experience; I was returning to Missouri to Grad School after flying home for Christmas.  Due to heavy snow in both Cleveland and Chicago, my AA flight was cancelled and I was rebooked on CO.  I'll have to turn on the scanner tonight, too and see what I can hear!

Oddly enough a friend of mine at work and I were just talking yesterday of all the airlines that used to fly into CLE.  He ran his own travel agency for a long time so he remembers many many airlines and charter companies.  Blue Skies Continental - as Chuck posted on a picture - after many years CLE is once again a United hub...
