CLEVELAND -- Next stop: Cleveland. Farewell Akron.
Frontier Airlines will start offering nonstop service between Denver and Cleveland with four weekly flights beginning Jan. 9, 2013.
But with these new flights, Frontier is stopping its service at the Akron-Canton Airport and consolidating their operations at Cleveland Hopkins Airport.
"At this point we expect a minimal impact on our customers as a result of Frontier's decision to cease service," CAK spokesperson Kristie Van Auken says. "Although we hate to see Frontier go, we look at Southwest as a stronger partner."
Southwest started service at CAK last month, including flights to Denver.
Van Auken says Frontier's decision was not customer-based because the airline had 93 percent of all seats filled this year.
"We had record levels of customer support," Van Auken says.
Frontier offered flights from CAK to Denver twice daily since 2005.
The final Frontier flights out of the Akron-Canton Airport will be Jan. 6.
"The northeastern Ohio community has embraced Frontier's low-fare service over the last six years and we are now excited to bring that service to northeast Ohio's primary airport, Cleveland Hopkins International," Lindsey Carpenter, a spokesperson for Frontier, said.
Frontier says the new Denver service with Cleveland will operate on 168-seat Airbus 320 aircraft.
Here's the schedule for Frontier's new service:
CLE-DEN: Monday/Thursday/Friday/Sunday -- Departs 5:50 p.m. Arrives 7:20 p.m.
DEN-CLE: Wednesday/Thursday/Friday/Sunday -- Departs 4:30 p.m. Arrives 9:20 p.m.
