There were also very long lines at the check-in counter Sunday. The space did not look adequate and there are no kiosks available for self check-in. I asked an agent how things were going and she said it's been busy, and she expected it to get busier this coming week. I wonder if they could take some space from US Airways when they consolidate operations with AA, or at least add some self-service kiosks to expedite the check-in process. Here is a shot of the departure board with a few of the new F9 flights, including a very delayed flight to RDU.

tk said how does adding one more flight 4 days a week warrant an article in the PD.?
Frontier isn't trying to take market share. All they want to do is fill their planes at a fare that is profitable for them, something they haven't been too good at doing in DEN. They will unquestionably fill one plane to Chicago at the intro fares and probably at their regular fares too. Since they have no aircraft deliveries until late 2015, they're not going to overwhelm anybody with frequencies.
Frontier is now owned and operated by the people who used to own Spirit - look for them to make Frontier into a Spirit clone. If you have a tight budget, a flexible schedule, and the ability to plan ahead, they're a good choice. Otherwise, you'll be unhappy.
I am very aware of the Frontier history and ownership. My main point is that this forum is about Hopkins airport. In the long run we need better airlines than Frontier for the airport to prosper. If we want anything better than a greyhound terminal filled with backpackers. If the goal is to help the economy of the area a help bring business (conventions, (such as GOP or Democ in 2016) we also need to help with other types of service that is more regular and better timed.
Frontier is fine but we need more and other also or we will be in long run decline.
More significantly delayed flights (2+ hours) today, but they seemed to handle the check-in process a bit more efficiently. I also saw two "shells" for what look like self check-in kiosks, which might help speed things along. There is no baggage service office that I can see. I wonder if that will be coming soon.

Back when Continental had just started its buildup at CLE, the Plain Dealer (in one of its 'poor pitiful us' funks) carped that when CLE finally got a hub it was by the worst airline in the country, which may have been true at the time, but times changed. Maybe they will with Frontier also, but - by design - Frontier will remain a low-fare, low-service operation. I think that's good for CLE in (re)building its passenger count as much by pulling people out of their cars as by stealing traffic from the other carriers. I fully expect Spirit will arrive in CLE within a year, too.
Both Spirit and Frontier have a BUNCH of aircraft on order. They will be on every major route within a couple of years. The big guys will have to provide a markedly superior service and a level of reliability that warrant the higher fares they charge (something they don't do now) or else they'll have to match the Spirit/Frontier model.
