Good article.  It seems more and more likely that this will be attributed to the loss of the trim tab as well.  There's no question as to whether or not it happened, it is quite evident in the many photos and videos of the crash.  Here is a good video that shows the whole sequence of events leading up to the crash, including start up, take off, and the race itself.  It is very well done, and respectfully does not include the crash itself. 

I like this video because it gives you a sense of what the race is about...the thrill of the chase, the roar of the engines, the incredible speeds and the planes themselves.  A slow motion sequence at the end shows the moment the plane lost control, and the eventual separation of the trim tab.  Almost ten minutes long, the video is over before you know it.

It seems sad to say "great video of the start up and take off", but other than the results, I just love that Bearcat! He died doing his passion in a plane he dearly loved.
