It looks like 2 C-27J Spartan's from Mansfield's ANG unit are over in Afghanistan getting their noses dirty. With the types of missions they are supposed to fly (forward operating bases, airlift, airdrop) I bet they really get put through their paces over there. God speed! This my old unit when we had C-130's.

So I am confused, the article makes it sound like they used to fly Herc's but now are flying these??? Or did they use Herc's on these missions and now are using Spartans?
These looks smaller so I am assuming smaller target/more nimble/better short field capability.
I find it hard that anything can beat a Herc in a US pilot's hands!
