If I remember correctly, wasn't Airbus awarded this contract a few years ago and a huge fuss was raised about it and so the bid process was re-done?

Looks like it's going to be a 767 airframe with 787 guts.

The whole KC-X program has been a mess but this latest "do-over" appears to be the last time the Air Force will do it. Glad Boeing won. It will be the KC-46A.

Sounds good. Go Boeing! I hope it doesn't get delayed further by another protest.

this is the right decision...maybe i'm old fashioned, but it seems like we aught to have control of our weapons systems from design through construction...who knows who we will be at work with in 100 years.

I couldn't agree more, dimoko. There's no reason for any of our military stuff to be sent overseas, lowest bidder or not.

How did they award the A330 a few years ago and now award the 767? I remember reading it was a done deal for the A330..But I'm really glad they are going Boeing...For now...

That is why all the foreign systems that we purchase are modified, and then manufactured here in the US. If you stop and think about it, there are a fair number. AV-8 Harrier, HH-65 Dolphin, T-6A Texan II, T-45 Goshawk, C-27 Spartan. That's just off the top of my head.

Doug

Out of the sandbox, finally!

none of those is as strategic as our refueling fleet. to me, the government contracts are how boeing can compete with the federally subsidized EADS and airbus. they get direct subsidies and boeing gets indirect ones.
