I was lucky enough to get a ticket for a bus tour of the Aircraft Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) [aka "the boneyard"] at Davis-Monthan while I was in Tucson, AZ. I'll be uploading some pictures soon and I will probably have to ask for some help identifying them since I could not get a good shot of the aircraft AND its sign. Some of the aircraft have parts removed (like the rotors on helicopters) and almost all of them have been covered with chemicals to prevent overheating in the desert sun. I know what some of them are but I can't match the type to the aircraft on sight.
Did anyone else have an aviation-themed visit or trip during the holidays?
No, I didn't have an aviation themed holiday, but I will live vicariously through yours! Sounds like an excellent trip...certainly one I'd like to make one day.
You can upload the ones you have that you know what they are, and then maybe you can post the ones you can't get here in this thread, and then we can all pitch in to figure them out! Looking forward to seeing what you've got!

These may be the best shots I got. It was a very bright and sunny day, so there was lots of glare off the white-covered aircraft.
Can anyone tell me how to create clickable thumbnails in my posts?
Hi Liz, sorry, it's been a little quiet on the forums and busy in life lately. I meant to reply sooner than this!
This is a place I've always wanted to get to...in fact, I think any graveyard like this is a place worthy of an aviation buff's attention. Not only is it cool to see so many aircraft in one place, but you get to pay your respects to the ghosts of these planes that served our country for all of their days and in far away places.
Graveyards that are dominated by airliners conjure images of other days gone by...journeys made, fortunes won and lost, mergers, and life before 9/11.
I don't know about you, but I always have a sense of reverence around aircraft relics. I can't help but think of the places and miles covered, or the history created.
Of the shots above, I really like the one with military variants of the DC-9, DC-8, 707, 737, and a C-130 all in one shot!
I'll send you a PM with instructions on how to upload these since they are non-specific. Again, sorry for the delay, and thanks for posting the shots!
Cool about MAPS getting an F-15! It's great to see that the museum keeps growing...I'm going to have to make it down there one of these days.
Liz...how many shots do you have? If these are the only ones you plan on uploading just go ahead and do it, and I'll make corrections in the queue. Sound good? As long as you don't have a ton right off, I can get them started from the queue.
