I'm attaching a pic of a C-27J Spartan taken at KMFD.  I cannot seem to figure out registration information for this aircraft.  The number format does not seem to follow that of other C-27J's and I can't find anything.  The tail number reads 87013 in case you can't make it out in the attached pic here.  Any help is appreciated.

From Joe Baugher's site:

08-27013/c/n 4149  Alenia/Lockheed Martin C-27J Spartan The number 27 is prefixed to the sequence number to make up 5 digits.

I read somewhere that although the Air Force is operating the C-27's they are retaining Army serial numbers because the Army was originally supposed to operate the type.

I too, thought that they didn't know which branch they were to go into, and apparently, that was the case!  According to this article from Mansfield ANG, it really was a toss-up as to where they would be going:

So, I guess now that we know they are all going to be joining the ANG, all registrations will be Air Force (unless the photo predates the article).

Henceforth, therefore, ever and onward, your aircraft will be registered thusly:

USA – Air Force

Martin-Alenia C-27J Spartan

08-7013

87013

08-27013

Does that help? Smile

Clear as mud, Chuck!  Is that language official from the powers that be?

707guy: I had looked up a few previous photos of the C27J Spartans on here and saw the "2" prefix and I could swear I tried the 08-27013 format, but apparently I did not!  Thanks!

Hi Nate…I can't tell, did that help or not? LOL!    If I be the "powers that be",  then yeah, that's the official language!  (At least for now…hopefully they won't change again.) Confused

P.S.  Mud is one of my specialties!

LOL!  Well, it's not the "Queen's language", that's for sure.  I'm pretty sure it's considered slang, but I'm happy to make it a "Chuckism"…I've got a million of them!

I just looked it up, and here's the definition:

Adv. 1. thusly - in the way indicated; "hold the brush so"; "set up the pieces thus"; (`thusly' is a nonstandard variant)

It did indeed help, Chuck.  You and 707guy were both quite helpful.  I shall list the aforementioned aircraft thusly upon contribution to the database. Laugh
