United Airlines yesterday announced they would discontinue nonstop service from Cleveland Hopkins to New York's LaGuardia Airport and Washington DC's Reagan National Airport. The airline, however, says that the total number of seats between the cities will remain the same, or even grow, as they will add larger planes and additional flights in and out of their Newark and Washington-Dulles hubs from Cleveland. United also says Cleveland should see an overall increase in seats in 2020, as the airline is adding additional service to Tampa, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando in the spring. The changes will take effect March 29, 2020.
United flies five times per day from Cleveland to New York (LGA), and Washington (DCA), operated by partner ExpressJet dba United Express.
On the heels of this announcement, ExpressJet, a United Airlines regional partner announced they would shutter their Cleveland operation base by the end of the year, citing United's recent decision to downsize their presence in the city.
