Cleveland landing fees were in the top 5 of the country for many, many years, and yes, only after CO threatening to cut back or leave did they get lowered, and supposedly that is only temporary, I'm not sure about that though. The way the airport was run when I worked there was despicable, on some snow days in the morning there was nobody to plow, the one gate on A for international flights was a nightmare, I could just go on and on.I don't work there anymore, so honestly, I'm not interested to attend meetings there.
I won't deny the White administration legend that ended in 2002, and don't pretend that things are perfectly rosy since, no political administration anywhere is.
I knew it...there are reasons why I am a pessimist, and I fought and still fight people that have high hopes for CLE and the "new" United. I hated the idea of CO and UA since the moment it was made public they were thinking about merging more than two years ago: it is bad for CLE and bad for customer service (look at UA's service record and rating and CO's service record and ratings).
Trust me, CLE is done, and will be the way of CVG, STL, PIT, etc. Its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. When Smisek said that CLE was safe a few months back, I could smell the Bulls**t all the way over here in Connecticut from Houston and Chicago.
Like the comment on You need to be a member to view our links., "Delta gave Cincinnati reassurances. US Air gave Pittsburgh reassurances. American Airlines gave St. Louis reassurances. None of these cities have hubs any more.
Come on Continental, if there are alternate projections, release them!"

That might have put a damper on their joyous spirits.
I read this a week ago and could only shake my head. I hope that they don't de-hub CLE. It would not only affect CO employees but quite a few vendors as well, I really don't want to see that happen.....
Someone needs to tell Smisek that he needs to prove he isn't an a$$hole.
Did anybody listen to the earnings conference call last Thursday? I don't want to raise any false hopes, because Smisek didn't really offer any, however ...
In response to a question about whether UA intends to eliminate overlapping hubs by reducing one or more (CLE and DEN, I assume) to focus cities, Smisek said "We don't have any overlapping hubs."

In his defense, I'll say he played it very straight during the call - sober and factual, with no attempt to mimic Bethune's humor. I agree that his comment isn't much for CLE and DEN to lean on, but it might mean the hubs' performance is truly open to review and will dictate the future.
Personally, I think DEN is in for a bigger surprise than CLE. At least CLE knows its future is on the line; DEN hasn't a clue.
