I knew it was coming, but geez...give me a minute! I was shocked today when I came into work and saw all the ticket counter signage gone! All but one, that is...
In spite of my smiling visage, it was a bittersweet moment as I posed in front of this last vestige of CO that will ever be seen as you enter the ticket lobby. This was the sign closest to the C security checkpoint. Several of us posed for photos with it, and within a couple of hours it was gone. Even my ID now says United, so I guess it's official.
Farewell, Continental...we shall miss you!
Here's to hoping the new company remains a strong force in Cleveland, and with luck, even grows a little!

Yes, some of the gates no longer have the marquee style backdrop, but I don't know what the plans are for that yet. Also, when I came in today I discovered that temporary cardboard signs have been put up behind the ticket counter, and they still say Continental, but the walls have been painted a darker, grayish color. In fact, we received this today:
Re-branding at CLE takes different approach
Thanks to the hard work and planning of many co-workers, the new United displays and signage debuted at subsidiary UA gates at CLE on Wednesday. All subsidiary CO gates will feature the new United look when work is complete on Sept. 7.
The approach in CLE is different from our re-branding at previous hubs. Based on customer feedback, we are retaining subsidiary CO branding in the lobby until we have a single passenger service system (PSS) early next year. This approach, which we will use at other hubs where the majority of flights are on subsidiary CO, will help eliminate confusion and make the check-in process as smooth as possible for customers.
“It’s one thing to hear about the new company but visibly seeing it all come together starts to make the merger a reality,” said CLE Managing Director Rich Lisser. “We’re all very excited.”
ORD and SFO have already completed rebranding efforts, and we will complete the seven remaining hubs in 2011, with DEN and LAX next.
