According to the Cleveland Hopkins facebook feed.

Continental/United has informed us that we will have a diversion today at 3:24pm. For airplane spotters, you will glimpse a widebody Boeing 767-400 arriving CLE nonstop from Rome, Italy. We're not expecting an extended stay as the aircraft will sit at CLE until it gets a new landing time at EWR, its original destination.

When I left the house about 730 for some pics from the parking garage it wasn't even showing on Flightaware. About 9AM they

backed it out of the hangar and off it went from 6R. Got some long distance photos to upload later.

The rebooking of the passengers from Rome interests me.  We're they all sent to EWR or were they sent CLE-destination when possible?

Yes.  Some of the pax were actually destined to CLE or stations served from here, and they were rebooked accordingly.

Enough were rerouted that a 738 did the job to get the rest to EWR…most on time for their onward connections.

A very nice piece of coordination by all involved, if I say so myself!
