Hi..did anyone catch the unbelievable sunset last night?  The sky had that look that it could be a good sunset . I was at the airport and things seem to be looking good , and a nice sunset was starting...Well a little later it just seemed tio fizzle out... Then after a little bit the sky just seemed to explode with color ..Between the clouds and all the contrails the sky lit up like nothing Ive seen before...........Here is just a couple of the photos i took..................

My family calls this "fire sky" because the oranges and reds are so brilliant they could have a forest fire reflecting off the clouds (minus the smoke, of course).  I've rarely seen these here in the eastern U.S. but they were nightly occurrences in northern New Mexico when I was there in 1994 and 1997.

Nice shots, George!  Here's a couple of the shots I got of it.  I was very busy at work and facing in the opposite direction this night,  but I was lucky to be able to squeeze off a few.  What's interesting about this sunset is that there are no natural clouds in the sky...all of the effects are caused by persistent contrails set down by planes passing over the Dreyer VOR located at the Lorain County airport, proof of how busy Cleveland airspace is, especially since this is only a small section of it!

While looking around tonight, I rediscovered a cool website on the science of contrails:

And there's plenty more sites out there as well.  Just don't get all chemtrail on me!

yalls didnt know? The Government's spending Billions upon Billions paying pilots, buying fuel and flying planes at high altitudes to spray what knows what into the air to make us sick. Yup! Nevermind the fact there's a ton of vids on youtube that shows airliners close up contrailing. NNoooo...those are Chemtrails. ::)

I just noticed that you can see the same clouds in the first pic and in Chuck's two. From different locations (I assume), but Chuck's look like they were taken a few minutes later.
That's Neat !!!
