I am so f'ng bummed out.  I went to an "air show survivors" party this evening after at the DoubleTree on Lakeside after the air show, and ALL, and I mean ALL of my gear was stolen. Every damn thing...two cameras, three lenses, chargers, batteries...just everything, not to mention all of todays shots including a couple hundred of the Osprey leaving and the 737 too.  They just took my whole bag.  I am just beside myself with being angry and sad and a sense of loss.  Thank god my boss Bud and other co-workers were there to get me through it.
I parked on E.12th and Lakeside, and for the love of god, I don't know why I didn't take my stuff with me...I ALWAYS do, but I guess I just didn't want to be carrying my bag around at the party.  I put it on the floor in my back seat behind the passenger side where I have tinted glass.  I covered it with a black towel and checked it when I closed the door, and I sure as hell couldn't see it.  I would swear on my life that I locked the doors with the remote when I left.  The truck wasn't "broken into" per se...they must have just opened the door and there it was.  I have a hundred million why's and what if's and I'm kicking myself in the a** for being so stupid.  It took the cops two and a half hours to get there so I could file a police report...thankfully, I have it on my insurance, but I feel naked without ANYTHING to take a picture with, not to mention the loss of all those pictures from today, and my niece's party yesterday.  I'm just gonna get drunk now...work on changing passwords (my addy book was in there too with all that info.)  Thank goodness I took my wallet out before I left.  Maybe I'll work on some shots from the other day after...at least I have those.
I just don't believe it...I feel so...I don't know.  Pissed?  Violated?  Stupid?  All the above?  How could I have been so careless?  Calling my insurance now.  Cry

Damn dude, I'm soooo sorry to hear that this happened to you! I pray that something good will come out of this horrible situation. Not only the equipment was taken, but memories as well. Try to keep your head up brother!

Dude!!!! I am so sorry to hear this!!!! I know the feeling having a car stolen from me. It is NOT your fault. You should be able to have your property in the car, with the doors open and the car running and not have to worry about it. It pisses me off that people do this sort of thing and forces us to have to worry and lock up stuff.

At least your vehicle isn't damaged. That's an even bigger headache! Thankfully you're insured. I guess that's a reminder for all of us to make sure our insurance is up to date.

If you post the equipment with serial numbers, I'll keep an eye out on Craigslist.

Don

Yeah…pretty major downer to say the least.  Thanks for the kind words, and the encouragement.  It would be nice to get it back, but I don't have my hopes up on that possibility.  Looks like it's time for an upgrade…(gotta think positive, right?)  Easier said than done, though!

I forgot to say something earlier that I would be remiss not to mention.  A special thanks to OPShots member Brent Lane, whom I only met today at the show, and was also attending the party.  He stayed with me until the police came and was very helpful in keeping my head together until they arrived.  He kept me company and offered the comfort of his car while I waited.  Brent…thank you…it meant a lot!

Incredibly sorry to hear this, hope you get your insurance sorted out fast.  I know exactly the feeling of having nothing to shoot with as well as losing pictures when my card got corrupted after an all-day outing, it sucks.

Wish you luck and hope everything turns out for the best.

I am at a loss for words. Check for security cameras around there. Someone is bound to have caught the scum bags on camera. Go today and look around for the cameras as some only keep the last 24 hours. Let us know the serial numbers of your stuff so we can be on the look out. I would also contact Dodd as the scum bags might try to sell it there as well.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Thanks everyone…your support and offers for help are greatly appreciated.  I've talked to my insurance and am awaiting a call from the claims department.  Looking at the list that I had on file with them, a good bit of it was on it.  I'm determined to be back up and running in some form by this weekend if there's any way I can make that happen.

I also contacted Dodd Camera and they have a complete list of missing items…maybe I should check some pawn shops too?  I dunno…never done that.  But here's a list of the stuff with serials for the big items…if you guys see anything let me know!

Canon Digital Rebel XTi -(black)  #1721122404
Canon Digital Rebel T1i -(black) #1070316187 (has electronic remote clipped to strap)
Opteka BGRXT battery grip for the T1i (black)
Canon EF100-400L IS U LC LH lens -(white) #413210
Canon EF 70-200 4L ISU lens – (white) #20392
Tamrac 5586 Expedition 6X backpack style bag (well worn) Darkish blue/grey with black trim and broken zipper on bottom front pouch.
Canon stock 18-55 lens
Four batteries and two chargers for the T1i
Two batteries and one charger for the XTi
Cards for the T1i with airshow pics
Cards for the XTi with airshow and birthday party pictures

Miscellaneous items include cleaning products, extra cards, a wood-handled hairbrush(!), and a Sporty's SP-125 aviation scanner/radio.

Thanks again for the outpouring of support both here, and in personal emails…I feel blessed to have good people like you all in my life, and you are making this a bit easier to bear.  Now, I gotta start thinking about how I'm going to replace it all!

EDIT:  Did you know pawn shops will only look out for something if the police tell them to?  Bravo Sierra.Yell

Chuck, I'm so sorry to hear about this.  My car was broken into one time, and the &^$#!! who did it stole... two bags of laundry.  Unbelievable.  I understand how humiliated you feel, too, because seeing my clothing strewn along the road as I drove to the auto repair shop was just a bitter reminder.  I'm glad that CPD finally showed up to take your report - they are notoriously slow due to staff cuts.  At least you have an official record of what happened.

Kudos to Brent for staying with you!
