In the heyday of PEOPLExpress in the mid-1980s, the airline counted Pittsburgh as one of 18 cities along the East Coast that it served with its discounts and no-frills service.PEOPLExpress linked Pittsburgh with its home base in Newark, N.J., where it was headquartered until it was absorbed into Continental Airlines in 1987. Now, a startup airline that has acquired the PEOPLExpress trademark and includes at least one of its former managers is making preparations to take up the low-cost banner and once again has Pittsburgh in its plans.
