GREEN, Ohio — A record number of travelers flew in and out of the Akron-Canton Airport in September. The total of 138,846 customers beat the previous busiest September in 2010 by 13,811.
For the first nine months of the year, 1.23 million total travelers used the airport, a 4.6% increase compared to the 2010 period, noted Rick McQueen, airport president and CEO.
Customers aboard AirTran Airways, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines, increased 16% compared to September 2010, carrying 64,300 passengers to six nonstop destinations including Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Milwaukee, New York and Boston.
