A phony bomb threat against a flight arriving from Seattle on Monday morning forced an emergency landing and a search of everyone on board, officials said.
Alaska Airlines Flight 342, which included six crew members and 126 passengers, was in the air about 6:45 a.m. when an employee at San Francisco International Airport found a note that included the flight number and some threatening language, according to Rosemary Barnes, spokeswoman for Oakland International Airport.
That flight, however, was scheduled to arrive in Oakland, not San Francisco.
Authorities sprang into action, Barnes said, with the flight making an emergency landing at Oakland shortly before 8 a.m., almost 20 minutes early.
The Boeing 737 taxied to a remote area of the airport, far away from other structures or the paths of other planes, she said.
Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies, along with TSA and FBI agents, brought out bomb-sniffing dogs and cleared everyone on the plane as well as all the luggage.
