Airport fire services responded today to an accident at Akron-Canton airport when a private plane veered off the runway while landing, sliding down an embankment and bursting into flames.  The FAA lists the plane, a 1981 build Mooney 20J, as being registered to William Bradshaw of Stow, Ohio, although the identities of the pilot and his sole passenger are unknown at this time.  Thankfully, both occupants escaped the plane with only minor injuries.

The aircraft, which is based at Akron-Canton,  was landing on runway 05 on a return trip from Kalamazoo, Michigan where it had spent the last two days, when for reasons still unknown the pilot lost control just after touchdown, veering to the left and exiting the runway.  Upon coming to rest, the plane caught fire.  Airport fire and rescue crews quickly responded to the scene extinguishing the flames with foam.
