YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport saw a nearly 60% increase in activity last year compared to 2009, and a new study is providing ammunition for efforts to grow the Vienna township airport’s existing business and lure new airlines.
The airport’s aviation director, Dan Dickten, told members of the Western Reserve Port Authority at their monthly meeting Wednesday that the airport had 27,581 enplanements in 2010, including both charter flights and regularly scheduled flights by Allegiant air, up more than 10,000 from the 17,391 reported for 2009. With just the existing scheduled service and not additional flights or carriers, Dickten projected that enplanements this year would exceed 39,000.
