More people are flying out of Palm Springs International Airport.

New travel numbers showed a 2 percent gain in 2010 over the year before. Flight attendants scanned the tickets of nearly 1.5 million passengers.

It’s the first year of true growth since 2008 when oil prices spiked, the housing market crashed and the economy prompted aviation officials to warn, “Brace for a bumpy ride.”

The Palm Springs airport passenger count for 2010 is still off from a 1.6 million peak set in 2008, city reports show.

But this January came in stronger than expected and WestJet’s added flight to Toronto beginning Feb. 2 provided extra hope for February.
