CLEVELAND, Ohio — Continental and United airlines have assigned a large share of their domestic flying to regional partners. Under their proposed merger, they want to keep outsourcing that work. But pilots at Continental and United say the subcontracted flying is costing them jobs. United has more than 1,400 pilots laid off, while Continental has 147. The Air Line Pilots Association says those numbers could be pared if the companies brought work back in-house.
