N636NA (cn 155390) This OV-10A was based at the NASA Lewis Research Center (Now Glenn Research Center)at Cleveland Hopkins Airport conducting Acoustic research. The test boom on the nose was a special addition to this aircraft for those tests. This particular OV-10A was the first production version of its type to be delivered, and was manufactured in Columbus, Ohio. Photographed somewhere over Ohio on one of its test trips. To confuse matters somewhat, NASA also flew a C-47 out of Lewis with the exact same registration number, and must have transferred that reg number once the C-47 was retired and gave it to the OV-10 aircraft. N615NA / 305-47 (cn 155436) Nasa Lewis (Glenn) in Cleveland operated the OV-10 for test purposes dating back to 1984. This OV-10D+ (s/n 155436) previously served with US Marine Squadron VMO-4. It was acquired by NASA Glenn in 1994. The Bronco was used for noise and acoustic research. You can see the small NASA badge on the right nose section. It was always cool to watch NASA fly this Bronco in the pattern, as they usually kept it real tight and flew a military style approach. Photographed at the CLE Air Show, September 1999. |
