86-0013 (cn 500-0099) The C-5M (M-for Modernization) is now fitted with far more powerful GE F138-GE-100 engines (civilian GE CF6-80C2). The C-5M has set many world records since the upgrades.

86-0013 (cn 500-0099) One of the first C-5's to be converted to the new C-5M Super Galaxy arriving at KYNG. I first captured this one at KMGE back in 2006.

86-0013 (cn 500-0099) Here’s one from my archives… My first sighting of what is likely the very first Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy at the beginning of the C-5 Reliability Enhancement and Re-Engining Program (RERP). It was equipped with the full digital upgrade (glass-cockpit) package and new GE F138-GE-100 engines among other features. I watched it takeoff and immediately return but didn’t have my camera. It experienced hot-brakes after it landed on RWY 11 and several blasts could be heard as multiple tires exploded from the increased heat/pressure. Luckily, I was able to grab my camera and get this shot. Airport Firefighters and aircraft maintenance crews quickly took control of the situation. This one was originally delivered in 1987 as a C-5B and converted to C-5M in earlier in 2006. It is still assigned to Dover AFB DE where the 436th AW & 512th AW are collocated.
