85-0028 / 50028 (cn 48233) Finishing its landing roll on runway 06L, this KC-10 was in Cleveland to support the USAF Thunderbirds, two of which are visible beneath the tail parked over at NASA. The rusted conical structure behind the aircraft was one of NASA's cold war era wind tunnels which has since been dismantled, changing the Hopkins landscape forever.

85-0028 (cn 48233) Pictured departing off of runway 06L after an incredibly short takeoff roll, this KC-10 is here to support the USAF Thunderbirds who are based at Hopkins for the duration of the Cleveland National Airshow. Ever since the 1981 show when Lt. Col. D.L. Smith, commander of the Thunderbirds lost his life in a crash off of East 9th St. pier after ingesting gulls, they have staged out of Hopkins instead of Burke Lakefront Airport where the show takes place. 85-0028 (cn 48233) Parked over at NASA, the USAF Thunderbirds are in town for the Cleveland National Airshow which actually takes place some ten miles away at Burke Lakefront Airport (BKL/KBKL) in downtown Cleveland. The KC-10 stopped by to drop off some supplies and was back out again quickly as "T-Bird One-Four." His departure was the most impressive I have ever seen with a wide-bodied aircraft, and I will post pics of that soon! August 30, 2007
