Multiple (cn Multiple) Cold day in December as aircraft line up for deicing on Pad 2. (The Captain of the 737 up front wasn't too happy when he realized that he would not fit on Pad 2 and needed to go around..) December 2006

Yup, had a Flt. on Staurday, entered the pad without prior contact, taxied J-2, held abeam 3 and then I spun him "left M-2 short J-1 contact Grnd to get back around" ...ya jerky

Yep the pad can be a whole lotta crazy when the planes start backin up, but thats when you separate the Global Jedi's from the Green Horn Rookies. :-D

Good, I'm glad we're all friends again. I think we all just want it to work the best it possibly can. It's nice to see all the good comments on the current deice thread in the forums too.

2828 sorry if I came across brash, we've taken so much flak its hard to be nice sometimes. I agree with your point though.

Yeah, I hope we can fix this in the future. Some talk of giving us a controller who operates Pad 2 only. That will help. Plus, somehow we need to make sure that pilots and Ground understands that Pad 2 is size restricted, I really wish they wouldn't have done that, but oh well.

2952, yep that's my point. No matter who is supposed to be controlling the area near Pad 2, pilots are basically being left on their own in an unfamiliar area. This results in poor sequencing if too many wait for Pad 2 while Pad 1 may have open lanes or simply make a wrong turn to Pad 2 like the 737 in the photo. If someone was actually in positive control of this area, whether FAA, Aeromag or someone else, it would improve operations. TypeI - dude, calm down, nobody said you're not doing a good job.

Thats right padcontrl! 2828, as a controller for the deice company we do not have any control as to where ground puts the airplanes. We only get control when they are short of J-2 or short of Pad 2 on K-1. Its funny how everybody wants to play the Monday morning quaterback when it comes to the CDF. It is not easy moving a Co bank of 40+ A/C on a pad that is only so big. I would challenge anybody to come over and do what we do because it gets tricky!! :-x

I agree that this Pad 2 procedure need to be improved, the fact is that Pad Controllers don't control where aircraft enter, thats ground. Pad 2 simply is not big enough for a 737, talk to the city engineers about that. There are four ways to enter pad 1 and one way to enter pad 2. It was designed for rj's only. Honest mistake. Not the pilots fault nor deice control.

If someone was actually controlling this traffic 1) This wouldn't happen, 2) there would only be one aircraft at a time on Pad 2 allowing the next in line to go to the next available slot on pad 1 or 2, 3)All airlines should be required to get in the same line thus creating a real first come first serve situation for deicing, 4)No I'm not kidding, this procedure wastes a lot of time, money and fuel and could be greatly improved upon.
