N840AY (cn 8040) Why do all airplane windows have this design and what do the numbers mean? Also check out the grime on the window, how do airlines clean this?

Some times is not grime that causes the interior pane of the window to appear this way .... but the cleaners applied to clean them breaks down the polymers and give the opaque or mottled look. And if you notice in the middle of photo there is a small hole that allows for pressure equalization between the inner pane and the outer pane which is exposed to exterior of the aircraft, lots of time dust and debris finds it`s way through this hole and for photo-ops guys like us we will have to wait to next heavy check or next opportunity for sidewall removal and cleaning to get good pics!

The second half of the numbers represents the serial number and the date the window was manufactured...in this case, Dec of 2004.
